    Simon,
VMT that! Totally incredible! These guys had some guts and determination!! And then he cops it in an aircraft prang back in UK!!
Quite a lot of the 'donkey work' on this POW job can be tedious - but is enlivened from time to time by coming across stories like this!!!!
    Tks again.

Plt Off Haste Louis Ford - WO416 givs his D.o.B. as December 27th 1919 at 'Redding'.

From ancestry.co.uk I got Leslie Lewis Ford, b.19/12/1919, registered Wokingham. A family tree on ancestry.co.uk confirms he was in the R.A.F. and became a P.o.W. and has his German 'Registration of Foreigners and German Persecutees 1939-1947' which confirms he was born in Reading on that date and was taken prisoner on September 22nd 1942.

Follow the crumbs and you sometimes get lucky!

(??????) Sgt Harry Jattes - this may be Sgt. Harry JAMES of Shipley, who was reported missing in the Yorkshire Evening Post of April 22nd 1942.

WO416 has a discrepancy with his date of birth - it gives his D.o.B. as June 22nd 1901, London, and I think he's on the 1939 Register at Shipley with D.o.B. July 22nd 1913.

That could make him 1378221 Harry James, on Wellington X3722, shot down April 22 1942:

All a bit thin I'm afraid...!

Default A Few More POW Lost Souls

    G’day All.

A few more POW “Lost Souls”!

Fg Off Henry Baenea, RAF. Nothing more known.
Flt Sgt James Hapburn, RAF. Nothing more known.
Sgt James Holidet, Royal Air Force. Nothing more known.
Sgt Jean Duhamel, Royal Air Force. Nothing more known.
Leading Mechanic (possibly LAC?) Johann Harris, Royal Air Force. Nothing more known.

And – to go off at a tangent. Last night I was thinking (now I know this is a dangerous thing for those of us of advanced years to do unsupervised!).
Do we know if any in the RAF, etc, volunteered for, or were transferred into, the AAC (including the Glider Pilot Regt) when it was invented in 1942 and who subsequently became POWs? If there is a list (or lists) where is it, and how do we access it should we need to?
    TIA
