Default 13 Sqn RAF Baltimore Loss 11 May 1944

13 Sqn lost at least two Baltimore on 11 May 1944

One in action, the other on an Air test killing the folloiwng

    Can anyone IDentify it ?

Lt HUGH HART WALLACE 329213V (SAAF)
Lt William Patrick Moore (Nav) 103607V (SAAF)
    F/S Thomas SIMISTER 1451231
    F/O DENNIS JOHN BLAND 158252 (W/AG)
LAC LAWRENCE ALAN Blake 1458277 (Pass)

It is said to have 'crashed on air test near Apricena '

the one lost in action was being flown by Flying Officer
Francis Charles Bowring (RACF) was FW335

This quotes Baltimore file for May 11/44 and 13 Sqdn:

FA642 - crashed on landing, Brindisi.

This does not seem likely to be the accident aircraft based on description

    Hello,

One other possibility (just that, no more), is the following:

Baltimore IV FA652 - ME (Middle East) - Damaged beyond repair in accident 12.5.44,

    See: RAF A/C FA100-FZ999/A-B(1989)/Halley/p.12.

Nothing unusual in A-B recording losses occurring on the day following the actual loss.

    Hello,
    I found following:
Baltimore V FW335 of No 13 Sqn RAF crashed onto a beach near Termoli after hitting the sea. Plane was damaged and SOC 31.5.44.
    13 Sqn planes that flew on 11/12.5.44 were FA517/S, FW310, FW332/R, FW335, FW369/G and (probably) FW458/B.
Baltimore IV FA642 crashed on landing, Brindisi. It seems that she was repaired as I found 642/Y on a list(s) of planes of 13 Sqn RHAF (Hellenic, ie. Greek), not RAF, that attacked Sinj and Sarajevo in July 1944. Later replaced by Mk V FW852/Y.

Thanks as the aircraft was on air test either new delivery or a repair on Sqn

If FA652 was new and aircraft unlikely in ORB

If lucky FA652 may be in ORB for previous days
