    Default ORB 21 Sqn, 1942

Does anyone have a copy of the 21 Sqn ORB for 1942, please?

I have a pilot, Flt Lt Kenneth Samuel Smith, who was killed on ops on 6 December 1942, and I'm trying to establish when he joined the unit. It was obviously after the disbandment in Malta on 14 March 1942, and re-formation at RAF Bodney the same day.

    Thanks

    Hi Steve,

I have glanced the preview online :
    Reference: AIR 27/263/55
    Description:
    Squadron Number: 21
    Summary of Events: Y
    Date: 1942 Mar 01 - 1942 Dec 31

    http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ils/r/D8409410

but I have to say it is not infromative regarding the postings in/out. Nothing or very little there.

As FORM 541 is not available for March-November 1942 it is also impossible to guess when he joined according to his first sortie.

    Reference: AIR 27/263/56
    Description:
    Squadron Number: 21
    Records of Events: Y
    Date: 1942 Dec 01 - 1942 Dec 31

Gives only roster of his crew with note "missing"

I was not able to find any Appendicies which may give us answer to your question.

I am sorry I am not bale to give you better answer.

    Thanks Pavel

I didn't know it was possible to preview the docs on the NA site, so thanks for that tip.

It's a shame there's no detail, though in retrospect I'm not overly surprised if there's nothing for March-November 1942 as they were non-operational during that period.
