CWGC Errors

Sadly, my last few attempts to get records corrected have resulted in pre-formatted letters from faceless bureaucrats who seem to have no interest in getting the records right. Even when evidence has been sent in, the records remain unchanged. I e-mailed one person saying that a simple look up online would show that 35 Squadron were not in Egypt at the time and therefore the record could not be correct .... to be advised that CWGC has no access to online facilities!

I am sure there are people who care, but they have certainly not been involved in my last few correction attempts .... I now just e-mail them with my findings, knowing that I have done my best to help them get their records straight .... it is disappointing .... but seems to be the "UK norm" at the moment

The Service Number is incorrect?
Note that TNA AIR 78/66/2 Image 306, Left Col, 2nd from top, gives 745756.
I have emailed CWGC. Ref Signal #61 (above). I have simply discovered what I think to be an error. What CWGC (or anybody else, for that matter) do about it is above my pay grade!!

If it's simply a transcription error at their end, it should get changed without too much trouble.

You never know, though...

I have found the CWGC to be very responsive at all times when contacted, they have looked at what I have sent them, sometimes even just a note with no evidence and they have in 90% or more of the times corrected the error. Provided a very good service in my opinion. They know themselves when they have a simple error and its pointed out.

Peter , the GRR form that CWGC has on the casualty page shows 745756 do this should be easy to get fixed. Their own records say so!

Cheers Peter, i have made all the changes into our DB... now to wait for CWGC to fix at their end.

Also thanks for posting the CWGC Ref - recently imported those into our DB As well. Pretty useful as our dbs start to diverge based on corrections.

Folks,
Can I suggest that when posting theses finds, can you advise if you have submitted them to CWGC or not, i tried on Friday night to start at the start of this thread to see whats been changed, and I didn't get far. If you have gone to the effort of find the error and identifying sources etc, save them down and submit them to CWGC. I use the email address enquiries /at/ cwgc.org

The missing serial numbers are like most errors simple scanning errors and one needs look no further than the scanned Grave registration forms on the CWGC entries itself, I looked at Hildage and Littleboy as examples.

Wenaus, likely also is a scanning error, if you look at the scanned files on his database entry, Wenaus is on the older document, whereas the other document looks like a more modern word processer print out.

Or we could do a large submittal at the end (if there is one).
