I will submit WALES (87420) now also, if you look at the scanned cemetery register, his name is printed as Richard Garneys WALES, scanned in this case must have gone awry.
I won't mention the other two Christian names as he served as Richard Garneys WALES per the LG etc

his birth registeration is with four forenames

    Births Sep 1912 (>99%)

    Dennis,

WO John Robertson - Died 21 Jan 1945
    http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...0942#post40942 (From Colin B)
https://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/c...bertson,-john/ inaccurately shown as 21/05/1945 while his ac AM562 went down on 21/1/45.

Since its an OTU, the paperwork may be difficult to get..

    Also :

Flight Sergeant Allan Graham AITCHESON (432654) A19-209 Ext Link 1944-09-20 30 Sqdn RAAF AIR27 Papua New Guinea Port Moresby (Bomana) War Ceme Ref : C8. A. 6.
Flight Lieutenant Albert James MOODY (404896) A19-209 Ext Link 1944-09-20 30 Sqdn RAAF AIR27 Papua New Guinea Port Moresby (Bomana) War Ceme Ref : C8. A. 7.

Recorded in CWGC as having died on 1945-01-25

But the A705 confirms that the deaths occured on 1944-09-20

If you read into the A705, the two RAAF men were taken prisoner and were murdered 'sometime' in November 1944.

I have to rush for lunch now, but I think the logic is that they presumed death occurred around 25 Jan 1945 before the end of the war and it was only during post war investigation that they found the Nov 1944 information and then didn't inform family, i think that's what it implies. See notes in the index sheets.

Death was presumed on 'or before' 25th Jan 1945,

if you see pages 22/23 of 110 of Moody's report.

    And page 8.

There's a reason for the 25th Jan 1945 date in this case, it would be clearer if the phrase 'on or before' was used perhaps .

    Not pretty reading.

Thanks Dennis. I failed to note that I never made it so far into the document

I get it why they arrived at the date. It does make grim reading - and I hope their story is not forgotten
