    hollo people
    can anyone tell me where i can find something about R.A.F.Altrincham please?
    as a kid ,we used to pick live ammo of the floor in the field there,and found bomb shaped concrete objects that were used to develop bomb bay doors apparently.there are still 2 pillboxes on the site but sadly no buildings.been trying for years but cant find anything about the place.i think it was called no2 maintainance group,and was used in both world wars

    No. 2 Stores (Ammunition) Depot) 1st of April 1924

    Redesignated No. 2 Equipment Depot on the 2nd of February 1937

    Redesignated as No. 2 Maintenance Unit on the 9th of April 1938.

    Redesignated as Ammunition Depot circa December 1950.

    Closed on the 15th of March 1957.

    Note: It was also the site of a civil repair organization known as Air Taxis Limited on Oakfield Road

    Take a look at http://www.content-delivery.co.uk/aviation/airfields/Altrincham.html. What it shows now is a housing estate but most of the photos in this series start as centred on the original airfield/camp and you can zoom in and out to get your bearings.
