    Hello,

    UK.

652918 F/Sgt John HANNAH, VC, RAF.

He (Hannah), did not return to operational flying and on 4 November (1940), reported to 14 OTU, Cottesmore for instrucyional duties. Here, in January 1941, he first met his future wife Janet, and on 1 April 1941 Hannah was promoted to Flight Sergeant. A further posting on 4 September took him to No. 2 Signals School, Yatesbury for further instructional duties, but now his health began to deteriorate and he soon contracted tuberculosis; resulting eventually in his being discharged from the RAF on 10 December 1942 with a full disability pension. Unable to take up full-time employment, Hannah was hard put to support his young family for the next four years, and soon his health failed completely. Finally, on 9 June 1947 [sic], John Hannah, the youngest airman ever to be awarded a Victoria Cross, died in Markfield Sanatorium, Leicester, leaving a widow and three very young children.
