mentions that Masson and Kok were flying Tomahawks and were shot down in aircombat. Masson failed to return but Kok was taken POW - apparently a mistake or KOK died in captivity.

Bert Ronald Dimmock, who was born in February 1917, enlisted into the S.A.A.F. on the outbreak of hostilities and was advanced to 2nd Lieutenant in December 1939. Joining with No. 1 Fighter Squadron, S.A.A.F., he was involved in a mid-air collision on 4 August 1940 but was lucky to escape unhurt, while during his next posting, with No. 2 Squadron, S.A.A.F. in East Africa his Gladiator was hit by small arms fire near Juba in the Sudan on 9 November and he was forced to land on an island in the middle of the Nile once again he escaped uninjured but his aircraft was a write-off. However, he was killed on 7 June 1941 when flying one of No. 2 Squadron’s Tomahawks from Takoradi in Ghana to the Nile Delta - his aircraft and another Squadron Tomahawk crashed some 30 miles south of Inaden. Dimmock, the son of John G. Dimmock and Octavia M. J. Dimmock of Westonaria, Transvaal, was 24 years of age and is buried in the Ibadan Roman Catholic Seminary Cemetery, Nigeria; sold with copied service record.

Lieutenant Buchanan who was a B.A. (Cantab); Trinity College Cambridge, was the pilot of the A22 Maryland bomber 1615, which took off from Landing Ground 17 (Fuka Main), to take part in a night bombing raid on Derna, Libya in the region of Cyrenaica. Over the target area the Maryland was shot down by enemy flak gunners. At the time of the loss of the bomber and its four crew, who are all commemorated on the Alamein Memorial. 24 Squadron, S.A.A.F. which had been formed in Kenya on 5 March 1941, and at the time of Lieutenant Buchanan’s death was serving in the Western Desert, mainly operating from various Advanced Landing Grounds.

Airplane was Airspeed A.S.10 Oxford #AR937 which crashed on 16th Sept 1941

Taken on strength at RCAF Station Dartmouth, NS. To No. 4 Training Command on 18 August 1941,
for use by No. 34 Service Flying Training School at Medicine Hat, Alberta. Stalled at low altitude on take
off from Medicine Hat at 16:00 on 16 September 1941 and crashed. Lone occupant, LAC Barrington Vincent Castle,
RAF died shortly after being removed from the wreckage.

Newspaper reports confirmed he died 17th Sept 1941

Category A crash on 16 October 1941, reported by No. 3 Air Observers School at Regina, Saskatchewan. Sgt. J. Wright, RAF killed.
Being ferried from Winnipeg to Calgary at the time, collided in air with Oxford AS571, which was only slightly damaged.
This aircraft lost several parts in flight, and spun in on the boundary of Regina aerodrome. Wright's body was found out of pilot seat,
in rear cabin, with parachute partially deployed. Both aircraft were part of a formation of 21 Oxfords being ferried from Fort William to No. 36 Service Flying Training School at Penhold by the No. 2 Training Command Communications Flight.


Collided with Oxford AS571 on 16 October 1941, during formation flying.

Winnipeg Family Found Shot Dead WINNIPEG, Oct. 27. Sgt. and Mrs. Gerald H. McMurray, their 10-months-old daughter, Marie,
and William McMurray, two and a half, a child of McMurray's previous marriage, were found Saturday night, shot to death in their home.
Police said another child of McMurray's first wile. Margaret, aged four, was staying with relatives.
McMurray was about 35 and his wife IS. He was attached to No. 3 manning pool of the R.CA.F. at Brandon.
Police said it was "evident" that McMurray had shot and killed his wife and children, then turned the gun on himself.

John Samuel Willis GRAY (R/70980) - his R.C.A.F. Service File records that he was killed in Battle 1814 of 1 B&GS,
which crashed (collided?) approximately 3 miles west of Fisherville, Ontario during an air to ground tracer firing exercise.
It seems that the Battle collided with another aircraft, and his cause of death is described as 'fall from flying aircraft.'
Battle 1814 Ex RAF P6492. Assigned to No. 1 Training Command in Ontario.

Littlewood, instructor at No. 33 EFTS, was killed when the aircraft struck wires across the South Saskatchewan River 3 miles west of Medicine Hat, and crashed into the river. To No. 10 Repair Depot at Calgary on 6 January 1942 for scrapping.
