Can anyone give a shot at finding out about this chap?

Leading Aircraftman Benjamin LOGAN (19106) RAAF 1941-06-13 Papua New Guinea Port Moresby (Bomana) War Ceme

The only Unaccounted RAAF fatality from 1941. His records on NAA.gov.au are not digitised and offer no clue.

    Jagan

His AWM website entry records that his death was due to 'illness' and has him with 11 Squadron at the time: https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/R1721007

    Hello,

Re: 19106 LAC Benjamin LOGAN RAAF.

LAC Benjamin LOGAN RAAF (of No.11 Sqn RAAF), was reported critically ill with appendicitis in early June, 1941. He succumbed to the illness at Port Moresby, New Guinea, on 13 June, 1941. LAC Logan is buried at Port Moresby (Bomana) War Cemetery, Papua New Guinea.

Just over a year later, the Logan family lost another son, VX25889 Lance Corporal Alfred James LOGAN, 2nd AIF. L/Cpl Alfred Logan, of the 2/22nd Australian Infantry Battalion, was captured when Japanese forces over-whelmed Rabaul. L/Cpl Logan, along with over 1,000 prisoners of war and civilians were piled aboard the Japanese merchant vessel, Montevideo Maru, for shipment to Samah (Hainan). The (unmarked), Montevideo Maru was sunk by the US submarine, USS "Sturgeon", on 1 July, 1942, 60m NW of Luzon Island, with no survivors. The Logan family knew nothing of his fate until after the war. He is commemorated on the Rabaul Memorial, Papua New Guinea.
