    Default Map ref 997257, The Netherlands

    L.S.

    For the crash of Lancaster ME722 ( 22 May 1944) I do have the landing for SHARPE and FRANCIS at location: 997257

    Any idea of this code and what kind of map is used ? Where is 997257 located ?

    Hi PATS,

    it's a standard six-figure GSGS map reference number but missing the two-letter prefix used in denominating the applicable 100x100 km grid square.

    For the Netherlands, the map reference could refer to:

    qD997257 = 51.49552 N, 04.85173 E (near Houtgoor, Netherlands)
    qE997257 = 51.52135 N, 06.29178 E (ignore, location is across the German border)
    qU997257 = 53.31727 N, 06.2343 E (NW of Grijpskerk, Netherlands)
    qY997257 = 52.39342 N, 04.79551 E (Amsterdam)
    qZ997257 = 52.41974 N, 06.2636 E (SE of Heino, Netherlands)
    rV997257 = 52.42855 N, 07.7328 E (ignore, location is across the German border)
    rQ997257 = 53.32624 N, 07.73271 E (ignore, location is across the German border)

    Cheers

    Hi Rod,

    Thanks, just what I was looking for. In the meantime I also ran into Charts on this side: http://www.wildernis.eu/chart-room/

    Hi PATS,

    yes, the https://www.echodelta.net/mbs/eng-translator.php website is the one I used to convert the grid reference.

    Cheers
