    Default No.17 OTU June / July 1940

    Hi,

Anyone have a copy of the 17 OTU ORB who can look up some details for me please.

Looking to identify 15 pilots who undertook conversion between June 26th and July 16th 1940 from 218 squadron.

    TIA

    Hi Steve

The Main ORB doesn't give the names of any personnel under training only total numbers completing training.

However, I don't have any Appendices, which might give lists?

    Hi Malcom,

Mmmmm might be worth a look at the NA the next time I am there. Can you tell me the NA file reference please.

I copied the main ORB a number of years ago, but did not come across any Appendices.

    Jonny,

Is there any reference to the arrival of pilots from No.218 Squadron June / July 1940?

    Kind regards

    Steve,

As Malcolm has already mentioned, the ORB does not contain names of u/t aircrew, only numbers of Pilots / Obs / AGs being posted to specific units. There were no trainees posted to 218 in June, however 11 x Pilots were posted to 218 in July. In August 2 x Air Gunners were posted to the unit.
There are names of staff being posted in to 17 OTU, for example on 30 July 40 Sqn Ldr C. C. House was posted in from 218.

    Jony,

That is odd?, 218 squadron ORB records the arrival of S/Ldr Charles House on August 8th 1940 to take over 'A' Flight. There is no mention of S/Ldr House prior to this date, so I'm not sure how he could have been posted to 17 OTU in July, unless the ORB for 218 is incorrect.

    Steve,

I've just double checked and it was my bad. He was posted to 218 on that date.

    Apologies!

    Jonny
