    Default Help with abbreviations

    Hi

I am new on here and wonder if anyone can help me. I am going through a WW2 RAF service record and my man is shown as having been promoted from ACH GD to LAC Emb.Asst. He was also shown as being transferred to 3 E.U. at I believe Weston Supermare in June 1944.

    Can anyone tell me:

    a) What was an Emb. Asst.? His final posting before being demobbed was to the Mersey and District Embarcation Ports Liverpool so can I assume that he was part of a unit organising the movement of RAF personnel who were deploying overseas through Liverpool?

    b) what was 3 EU and was it based at Weston Supermare?

    Thank you and best regards

    Mike

    Hi Mike

    Welcome to the forum.

Emb Ass will be Embarkation Assistant and 3 EU was No 3 Embarkation Unit located at Liverpool.

EUs processed the personnel and equipment entering and leaving the country through ports.

    Hi Malcolm

Thank you so much for the information, it starts to make sense now! Another item I found in the record was that between 22/10/41 and 28/11/41 he was admitted to 64 General Hospital in Alexandria, and from 28/11/41-03/12/41 he was at 1CD before being transferred back to his Squadron, (39 Squadron). Do you happen to know what 1CD might mean?

Once again thank you and best regards

    Hi Mike

Probably No 1 Convalescent Depot, but was probably an Army run unit as it doesn't appear in the RAF listings
