The Statutory Deaths Register on the Scotland's People website records that he died 600 yards NNW of St. Abbs Lighthouse due to a flying accident. Possibly Sea Otter JM861:

    https://canmore.org.uk/event/959054

Also from the same unit and date:

BENNETT, Leslie Gordon, Flt Sgt (Nav), 279 Sqn, 1458649, aged 24
    FIELD, Roy, AC2, 279 Sqn, 3051194, aged 19
HUNT Harold Robert, Cpl, 279 Sqn, 1121713, aged 32
MATTHEW, Patrick Robert Duncan, F/Lt (Pilot), 279 Sqn, 147992, aged 26
ROBERTSHAW, Frank, LAC, 279 Sqn, 1015977, aged 25

Oddly, the 279 Sqn ORB just has: 'F/L Matthew and Sgt. Bennett killed as the result of a flying accident on 13.7.45.'

However, the Statutory Deaths Register entries for Bennett, Field, Hunt, Matthew and Robertshaw all have the same cause and place of death as Clough.
