Hello,
AUSTRALIA.
23620 LAC John Gordon FOX RAAF.
23620 LAC (Fitter II E) John Gordon FOX RAAF, enlisted in the RAAF on 25 September, 1940. He served in many units, including extensive service with various Air Depots. He also served on No.54 Sqn RAF in the north of Australia for 4 months. Despite five years of solid service he progressed no further than LAC. This was mainly due to his low educational standard (he left school in the sixth grade, and was nearly rejected because of it). Fox was a man of the land, having little or no need for the trappings of education.
LAC Fox RAAF, was discharged under Regulation 115 (t), "To resume his Civil Occupation" [Cane Farmer], on 29 November, 1945. He later took up employment with the Dutch airline, KLM, carrying out urgent repair work on disabled planes in Batavia, and northern Australia. He eventually returned to his first love, farming, and later worked in motor garages.
He was taken ill (of an unspecified complaint), in July, 1947, admitted to hospital, and passed away three weeks later on 31 July, 1947. John Fox's death was deemed attributable to War Service.
Col.
