Did you have any luck with him Steve, I'm working on the "tween the wars" history of No. 57 Squadron and obviously have him with "C" flight splitting off to form No. 218 but for some reason I cant find him in London Gazettes when I'm usually pretty good with the LG. Did you find his service number at all ?

Hello

He gets a couple of mentions on the papers in the 20s and 30s for minor motoring offences, which also record where he was at the time:

Thanet Advertiser of February 27th 1927: summoned at Ramsgate for causing an obstruction with a motor car and fined 10s with 10s costs. It states he was stationed at Manston.

Derby Daily Telegraph of August 23rd 1935: fined 10s for exceeding the 30 m.p.h. speed limit. It records him as Basil Malins Cary (30), of Upper Heyford, Oxon.

Wow I see what you mean about the OCR its not good for his name is it. GARY works much better.

7 Jan 1927 Flight Cadet graduated Cranwell appointed Permanent commission as P/O (seny 11.12.26)
11 Sep 1928 he was P/O promoted Flying Officer
1 April 1934 he was F/O promoted Flight Lieut
1 Aug 1938 he was F/Lt promoted Actg. Sqdn Leader
1 Nov 1947 he relinquished rank of Actg. Wing Commander and became Squadron Leader.
