Default Wessex Bombing Area ADGB 1936

    Hi,

Can anyone please tell me about the above, there is some conflicting information on the web.

Did the Wessex Bombing Area have control over all RAF bomber squadrons based in the UK in 1936.
Was the Wessex Bombing Area broken down into regions ?
    Where was the HQ
Who was in charge in 1936.

Lastly, what is the difference between Wessex Bombing Area and Central Area ?

    Thanks for any help.

This is what I managed to piece together with the help of Malcolm (RAFWEB)

Not sure if it answers any of your queries, but it may give you a start point

(Malcolm's website will probably provide details regarding locations etc)

I think the Wessex area was set up as the main location for bombers at a time when the most likely threat would have come from France, being the largest military presence in Europe at that time. The change in structure seemed to coincide with the increase in threat from Germany under the Nazi regime. I have a book on the subject but have yet to read it!
