    Default May 1940 AASF

    Hi,

Trying to determine the activity of a couple of Battle squadrons during May 1940. Both lost their ORBs in those hectice few weeks. I have copies of the various wing ORBs, but these appear not to record the attacks recorded in the log books I have.

So, my question, what other files are there at the NA, other than the squadron and wing ORBs?

    Any advice welcome.

    Hi Steve,

Found the following files when I searched in AIR 35 Air Ministry: British Air Forces in France: Registered Files:

    • AIR 35/192 Summaries of operations, May 10th - June 16th
    • AIR 35/193 Forms `K' (bombing operations reports) Bos 30 - 63 May 10th - June 14th
    • AIR 35/195 Summaries : Operations and intelligence
    • AIR 35/334 Targets attacked by Bomber Command and A.A.S.F. : daily records, May 26th - June 13th

I hope you will find something interesting. Unfortunately I have no personal experience of these files.

    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Steve,

I checked all files in AIR 35 and there are a number of diaries including the following:

    • AIR 35/256 Operations room diary
    • AIR 35/257 Operations room diary
    • AIR 35/284 Diary of operations

Also found several intelligence summaries including this:

    AIR 35/191 Intelligence Summaries Nos 1-88, Mar. 25th-June 12th

    Regards,
    Peter

    PS
If you find a file with a good summary of encounters/combats with enemy aircraft involving RAF bombers can you send me a PM with the file number?
