Thanks Peter. Has anybody got info concerning his 1939-44 operational history please, as I say I have his pre-war squadrons but cant find any trace of his wartime service and I'm convinced he must have had some operational service, Thanks for any help PeteS

    Pete, Hope this helps:
He joined the Royal Air Force in 1931. During the Second World War he commanded a squadron of Lancaster Bombers over Europe, served as Air Staff Officer in The Sudan and finally at the Air Ministry in London until 1948.

    Hello Pete,

The following might be of interest:

    14/15.1.41
    38 Sqn.
Wellington Ic N2759 "Y" (Wild used this a/c extensively during his time on 38 Sqn - sometimes incorrectly recorded as N2795/Y)

Failed to gain height on take-off from Fuka, jettisoned bombs but crashed in attempting to land.

Sqn Ldr F. W. L. Wild and crew safe.

    See: MAW1/Shores et al/p.452.

Extensive mentions of S/L Wild throughout 38 Sqn ORB's, Dec'40 - Feb'41., (ops etc), including the following:

    AIR 27/398/3 Summary of Events (F.540) 1941 Feb 01 - 1941 Feb 28 - Image 2 of 5.
    http://discovery.nationalarchives.go...ils/r/D8411291

7.2.41 - Postings - Squadron leader Wild posted to Headquarters No.203 Group for Ferry Pool duties.

Still a long way to go, but at least it's a start.

    Hi guys

Probably no connection, but in my copius notes I have a W/Cdr WILD flying Beaufighters with 272 Squadron in 1943, who was credited with a shared He115 on 21/7/43 and a Ju52 on 24/9/43.

    Cheers
