I'm looking for info on P/O RG Hall, an American from New York who joined the RCAF. He seems to have served in the UK with 400 Sqn and 403 Sqn in 1941. He was then sent overseas and on 9 April 1942 fought with 261 Sqn over Trincomalee (Ceylon) when it was attacked by the Japanese. I'm looking in particular for his full name and his combat report for 9 April 1942.

    TIA.

    This maybe your man

The combat reports for the 9th April 1942 are all included in the Summary of Events for the period 1st January 1942 to 31st May 1942 of the 261 Squadron ORB (pp 33-45) which you can download for free without the watermark

Chris, thanks very much for advising me of the Canada Gazette entry. I think that R54819 Robert George Franklin HALL J4248 must be the P/O RG Hall listed in other documents. The CG entry has him being promoted from LAC to P/O in February 1941, presumably on completion of his SFTS course. The 400 Sqn ORB has a P/O Hall joining that unit on 2 August (apparently after taking a Tomahawk conversion course), the 403 Sqn ORB has him joining them on 11 October from 400 Sqn and leaving for the Personnel Dispatch Centre at Padgate "pending posting” on 1 December, and the 261 Sqn ORB identifies him as being present on 15 January 1942, when that unit was still in the Middle East. His combat report for 9 April is indeed attached to the 261 ORB, and in it he claims to have damaged four Navy 97 (B5N2, aka KATE) aircraft while sustaining only minor damage to his own aircraft and no wounds. He's not listed in the CWGC database, so presumably he survived the war, but so far I've not been able to find any info on his service after April 1942.
