I found Leigh this morning. As suspected duff info from the ORB was the problem, which was then copied across to the accident card. The Paradie RCAF database headed me in the right direction when I went through all the Leighs again. He did not come up on a name search of the Gazette.
He is in fact F/O Earl William LEIGH J35312 RCAF and he was a pilot.

The information from alieneyes and Paul about K T ASHE being Keith Thomas Ashe. For my own future searches where did you find that and how is the link to the RCAF established.

    Thanks

    Chris

Cancel trying to find Currie to. He is
Sgt Herman Bruce CURRIE R56416 Wop. He got commissioned in the Gazette 26th February 1944. Paradie to the rescue again. I'm not surprised he didn't use his first name.

For those of you unfamiliar with Paradie DB Try

    http://aircrewremembered.com/ParadieArchiveDatabase/

I assume alieneyes found Ashe on family search DB's. It is an unusual name

    Family Tree

    Parents Thomas Wilson Ashe

    Then using all that

Paul, That is all so useful, I am learning so much here. I feel like I am on a bit of a roll this morning. Cancel finding WELLS.
He was a pilot Sgt Donald Judson WELLS R109487 RCAF. He left 423 Squadron and got trained on Catalinas at 13 OTU at Killadeas before joining 413 Squadron in Ceylon. There he got commissioned with J89287.
    Thanks again

    For Leigh

I find that the Canada Gazette Archives is very very poor to search but I use say J35311 or J35313 to find 'near people' then try and find unusual names and then work on assumption that commissioned together to find target person in this case both 'good possible hits' may have to go back further numbers or names

    J35311 = Severide -- Unusual Name
    J35312 = Arondeur -- Unusual Name

However you can see the problem with the OCR on this site

    01"'0 W. W. IG:vsrarr, CAN (,f353f0)
    O 1'/O N . Sxvuunx, CAN (J35311)
    O1'/0 D. J . :\noNUt:ua, CAN(J35:112 )
    3 Mar/dl inunediotely following
    T/Fi0 It. L. r\nuorT, (J35217)
    01'/0 E. W. Lxlall, CAN(JOI,3t2 ) -- This is Leigh!
    3 rlw,bl itmuedialely following
    T/F/O A . I :, '/.AUnL, (J353.50)

In this case it was J35213 that gives us an indication

    1867-1946 (Dominion of Canada), volume 77, number 44, 30 October 1943, page 47

    http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/d...jo3bccaf9jt190

Though he not on list I assume his commission would be around this date - so more targeted searching can be performed

Such as: "Leigh" and "10" and "1943" though this did not work either

    But you get the idea

    1. F/Sgt W H ABRAHAM R116835 423 Squadron aboard W6013 that crashed into Knockayld Mountain, Co Antrim on 05/12/1943.

Typo below Should F/Sgt W.H. Russell listed actually be F/Sgt W.H. ABRAHAM ?

    Cos it says

"The Captain of the aircraft FO Russell (RCAF) was in hospital, seriously injured in the
accident. It was intended to take disciplinary action against him if the Court of Inquiry
findings into the accident confirm the above."

Chris can you fill in the full details of known survivors
