Default Lost Form "D" as reason for operation cancellation

    Hi all,

I have found a very unsual note (for me) in ORB of 310 Squadron: "Owing to loss of Form "D" at Portreath, operation was cancelled in the air and the squadron returned to Portreath."
According to the ORB of otaher fighter squadrons the operation was cancelled "due to technical reason". The ORB of the bomber squadron to be escorted stated the operation was cancelled as no fighter escort was avaiable.

I have found an older post from Ross regarding Form "D":
    http://www.rafcommands.com/forum/sho...Forms-Lettered

Unfortunately links to the examples (pictures) does not work anymore but from the description I am not able to understand why loss of such a form my cause the cancellation of the whole operation? It seems to me this form has to be filled only after the end of operation?
Or it may be a different Form "D"?

    Any ideas much appreciated

    TIA

    Hello Pavel,

I may be wrong, but it seems to me that Fighter Command Forms 'D' are operational orders for offensive operations.

    Best wishes,

    Hi Jérémie,

thank you for your comment in this case it would make more sense but still I do not understand why it was so crucial that the fighter escort has to return.

I am not sure of course, but it may be that some important information (like call signs, frequencies, route, rendez-vous time or position) has not reached one of the operation participant in the air or on the ground.

Jérémie I think you got the point! Id the Wing leader of three squadrons of the Close Escort would lost the form with such an information it would mean cancel of the operation. Thank you for your suggestion. Now I need only someone who would confirm this was really content of Form D.
