Default More info on unaccounted airman - F/O Frank Reid Miller (19/01/1945)

    Hi all

I'm doing some research on NZ unaccounted airman for the database. I have the following on F/O Frank Reid Miller based on a couple of sources:

Flying Officer Frank Reid MILLER (2409) RNZAF. 1545 Beam Approach Training Flight, RAF. 1945-01-19 NZ Christchurch (Bromley) Crematorium
Killed on active service. Originally from New Zealand but left to join RAF. Served 12 years in RAF, application to transfer to RNZAF had been approved but still a member of RAF at the time of death.

While 'killed on active service' is stated for F/O Miller, nothing else is mentioned. Anyone have any ideas on how he was killed or the ORB for 1545 BATF that they could check?

    Cheers

    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

Oxford I AT655 of 1545 Flight crashed in a forced landing at Wassall Wood, Kidderminster, Worcestershire (Ordnance Survey map ref SO795774) 19 January 1945. Miller was the only fatality, two other crew members NB Worswick and JR Payne were injured. At this time 1545 flight was based at Halfpenny Green airfield, about ten miles north of Kidderminster.

    Andrew,

Newspaper item is incorrect regarding his RAF/RNZAF status. At time of death he was only attached to the RAF and no longer a member of it. Refer following entry from my trilogy For Your Tomorrow - A record of New Zealanders who have died while serving with the RNZAF and Allied Air Services since 1915 (Volume Three: Biographies & Appendices):
