Default Foreigni/Foreigny - mystery place in Normandy

    Hi all,

I would like to ask for help with "deciphering" the correct spelling of place stated as "Foreigni/Foreigny" in the ORB of a fighter squadron.
There was an Armed Reconnaissance in 1944 via track Bayeux Vire Carentan and a train "was straffed at the Railway Station of Foreigni/Foreigny". According to some other source this place should be near to Vire.

I have searched several Normandy maps but no luck at all.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    TIA

Could it be Folligny? It's about 40km west of Vire. There's a station and railway sidings there, if you look on Google Maps.

Thanks Simon, it sounds reasonable but on the other hand it seems to me to be too far from Vire and from the track they were patrolling.

    Hi Pavel

Possibly Toringi-sur-Vire? Located halfway between St Lo and Vire, see 1:100,000 map here http://digitalarchive.mcmaster.ca/is...t/macrepo:8772 in grid 570540. Looks to be a railway station just north of the town however a railway line long since disused.

Hi Pierre, thank you very much for your advice - I think this is the best option so far! It alos lies on the last leg of their patrol Vire – Carentan.
