It reported that he was found dead at his lodgings at Ruislip, with an envelope of barbitone capsules beside him. The article states that he had been a pshychiatric outpatient at West Middlesex Hospital. His doctor said the Bailey had had a bad time in the Desert Air Force and had an explosive temper. He was separated from his wife, and he had financial difficulties. The Doctor described him as "a man how had lived a somewhat selfishly irresponsible life and had got in a tangle and developed a bad temper. He seemed to behave in a deliberately unpleasant way at times - almost as if he enjoyed it."
The Coroner returned a verdict of suicide while of unsound mind. Cause of death was barbitone poisoning.
