Squadron Leader John Lefroy McCaul, DFC and Bar (RCAF) was posted to No.136 Wing on 1 December 1944 for navigation staff duties. However, it appears that the Commanding Officer of No.136 Wing asked that McCaul be his navigator. Although he had completed two tours, he wished to perform these duties, and it was understood that they would entail only “one or two sorties per month.” His RCAF file does not reveal the extent of this part of his career. My questions - (1) Who was the Commanding Officer of No.136 Wing early in 1945; (2) Did McCaul indeed fly operationally with this officer ? (3) If so, how many sorties ?
