Default William Russell DONAGHUE 121282 D.F.C. - 1942 bale out in the Med.

    Hello

William Russell Donaghue of 541 (P.R.) Sqn was awarded the D.F.C. in November 1944, and the award was reported in the Newcastle Journal of November 7th. The article includes the following incident:

In 1942, when operating from Gibraltar, Flight-Lieut. Donaghue’s plane was seriously damaged when crossing the Mediterranean and he had to bale out. After swimming nearly two miles he was taken prisoner by the French and taken to North Africa, only to be released after two days and sent back to Gibraltar.

A long shot given the lack of a specific date, but can anyone give any details of the aircraft involved?

    Many thanks

    Simon
