Default Convoy SCL 84 May 1942

    Hi all,

I came across the patrol by 612 Sq on 27.5.1942 over Convoy SCL 84.
Having a problem to find details about this particular convoy I would like to ask if anybody could provide them?

So far I believe it sailed on 22.5.1942 from Island, number of ships not know, was sailing for 6 days to the port uknown to me.

Any additional info would be appreciated.

    TIA

I couldn't find the SCL series on Convoy Web ..... could this be a typo?. Also, you say it sailed from "Island" .... did you mean "Ireland" .... if not, have you got a departure port?

    Regards

    Pete

Hi all, thank you for your comments.

First of all my apology - "Island" is Czech name for "Iceland":-)

The ORB clearly shows SCL 84 but I think COlin is right! The dates of SC 84 fits.
Knowing now that some ships were going also to Iceland, the seach on http://www.convoyweb.org.uk returns:

    Fri May 29, 1942

    .. CAMPFIRE SC.84
    .. CARBELLA SC.84
    .. DANIEL MORGAN SC.84
    .. FJALLFOSS SC.84
    .. JOHN WITHERSPOON SC.84
    .. NOREG SC.84
    .. NORLUNA SC.84
    .. PETER HELMS SC.84
    .. RICHARD BLAND SC.84
    .. USS POLARIS SC.84
    .. USS STRATFORD SC.84
    .. YEMASSEE SC.84

This means that there can be a patrol of this part of SC 84 on 27.5.42 when they were approaching Reykjavik.

So my conclusion is the puzzle is solved.

    Thanks to everybody once more.

Small correction of my previous post - according to http://www.convoyweb.org.uk the detachment of the part bounding for Iceland was done only on 28.5. so on 27.5. the SC 84 was still in full strength.
