Default Personal Artillery - regulations and customs.

    Gents
While airmen were issued with personal weapons, I hardly recall any photos of airmen wearing them outside of bases in the UK. Was this because any regulations, customs or just inconvenience of carrying them? The situation changes abrubtly following landing on the continent.

    Hi Franek
Presumably they weren't considered necessary in the UK. Certainly from 1941 with the threat of any German invasion gone it wasn't considered they needed to be worn 'at home'.

Unfortunately, while the thread mentions the issue, it does not provide an answer. The question is, if there was any regulation on carrying arms in the UK outside of air bases.
