Default Sgt Herbert Allan Tickner #3036853 Meteor Ejection 17 July 1951

Sgt Herbert Allan Tickner #3036853 was the 2nd RAF Martin-Baker ejection

He is listed on it for a Meteor Ejection 17 July 1951

However I cannot find a Meteor loss on this date in Cummings and I wonder if anyone can ID the aircraft involved

The date of course may be wrong

He was born in 1926 and enlisted circa 1943

His middle name may have been “Alan”

There are two Herbert A Tickner registered in 1926 on Freebmd and no others!

    I wonder if same person

A Herbert Alan Tickner was born on Oct 1926

    J. J. Halley's 'Broken Wings' has:

Meteor FR.9 WB114 of 2 Sqn, August 9th 1951. Abandoned after control lost in cu-nim cloud, crashed Bunde, West Germany.

The 2 Sqn ORB confirms Tickner as pilot. It has:

    August 9th 1951:
Sgt. Tickner in severe turbulence in a Cumulo-Nimbus during a Q.C.E. let-down, lost control and baled out when his aircraft was heading vertically down at 11,000 ft. and indicating well over 400 knots. It says much for the Martin-Baker ejection seat that, baling out at a T.A.S. approoching the limiting speed of the airframe, Sgt. Tickner came out with facial windburns and a twisted knee[?] and had fully recovered within a few days.

A family tree on ancestry.co.uk has Herbert Allen Tickner, b. October 11th 1926 on Hayling Island.
