    Hello,
    From the RAF Lists I came across a
    F/O Towlson, J.D - 41964.
    Anything known of this officer ?

    John Doar Towlson.

    Born Basford June 1916 Qtr
    Deceased Notts 2000.

    Short service commission as Acting P/O 15 April 1939.

    P/O 18 May 1940

    F/O 6 November 1940

    F/Lt 6 December 1941

    Resigned short service commission 8 June 1942.

    No.241 Sqn.
    Lysander II R2025

    Failed to become airborne and hit barrels, Inverness, destroyed by fire.

    P/O J D TOWLSON - Injured
    Sgt E P SATCHEL* - Injured

    * Possibly, emphasize, possibly, 933527 Sgt Alan Philip SATCHELL. Towlson had been posted in to 241 Sqn (from 4 Sqn), in late September 1940. There was a Sgt Satchell mentioned in the September 1940, 4 Sqn ORB.

    Hello Col and Dave,
    Thank you both for your help. I had been looking at 1939 and must have got 1940 in there in error, could not find in 1939 so then looked in RAF lists and did then find him. Originally I did wonder if the serial number was wrong as I thought that J.D.Towlson may have been a WAAF.
    Lt. Denis William Ivan Towlson - 278640 , Essex Reg. Armoured Corps killed in France 1944 left a widow Joan Doreen Towlson. I wondered if the one I came across was her and that she may have been a WAAF.
    Again, many thanks for clearing up my questions about F/O. J. D. Towlson.
