The newspaper reports are seemingly not that accurate, in all probability!

He was a Fleet Air Arm pilot, and was attached to the RAF when he was killed. That's about as much as I can say is 100% fact at the moment. As for the rest...

    Simon,

I'm sure you've already considered this, but is it not probable/possible that the obituary was provided/notified to the press by his family who, perhaps, amplified the facts. I have a such an instance with one of my meteorologists; research proved that little of what was written in his obituary was fact, but clearly a very distraught father glorifying a very mundane and ordinary life.

Edit: The 96 Sqn ORB records he was killed whilst taking off from West Malling on 27th November, not the 26th. (https://discovery.nationalarchives.g...ils/r/D8384731)

Further to my #12, I see the CWGC has Walker's colleague, Lieutenant Commander P N Humphreys, RN, as also being killed on 26 November, contrary to the ORB entry.

A small snippet of further gen. I came across him mentioned in a small ad in the Navy News, June 1999:

Lt G M Walker RNVR: Info sought about this FAA pilot who bailed out at Drem in 1943, and his present whereabouts if applicable. Contact the Membership Secretary, FAAOA, 4, St James Square, London SW1Y 4JU.

    Regards
