    Re the above
My Father was in South Africa in 1945, training in Tiger Moths. Either Cape Town or Freetown have been mentioned. He died in 1998 and I am trying to get his service records. They need his Service Number, and I have no idea how to get it.
    Please help.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum. His Service Number can be found in the Air 78 series of files on the National Archives.

To save you the trouble, there seems to be just one match in Air 78/121:

    OWEN John Wynne 1589014

The card also has the abbreviation 'ds' but I'm not sure of the significance. I'm sure someone else on here will be able to tell us!

    Regards

    Simon

    Aled Hi, and welcome

When you get his Service Record it will be full of acronyms, short-forms, etc, etc. There are many on the forum who know some of them - nobody knows ALL of 'em!!!!
    Good luck
