    on the last escort sortie of the afternoon, 10 miles off Bougie became detached from his leader and did not return.
    F541 not available, he was flying a Hurricane HV??? so maybe someone who have Air Britain RAF Serials for HV may be able to add possible serial?

    Flight Sergeant James FRIAR (1380253) Pilot

    81 Sq ORB:
    F/Sgt J. Friar was badly shot up in s dogfight and while trying to land crashed on aerodrome.He was seriously injured and died in hospital 11 hours later at 23.00.

    F541 not available. He was flying a Spitfire VB possibly of EP or BM series.

    O'TOOLE, ELIZABETH JOSEPHINE (446069) WAAF - age 19

    She was serving with No 82 Group and died in the Royal Victoria Hospital from a cerebral injury due to a fracture at the base of her skull which she sustained the previous day when she fell from a bus at Garnerville Road bus terminus, Holywood Road, Belfast. Her death was registered as Joan O'Toole.

    Pilot Officer Malcolm Ramsay HAWORTH (135171)

    208 Sq ORB:

    Sgt Hayworth took off at 14.30 for Local Flying Training in Hurricane IIA Z4950. He was subsequently reported missing.
    His aircraft was found from the air later and he was dead.
    No suggestion as to the cause of the accident can be made as the aircraft is so badly damaged. From the fact all aircrews are broken off flush at the adapters it may be inferred that the engine was running at hing speed at the moment of impact, eliminating engine failure as the cause.t
