    Default P-51 Mustang - RAAF 77 Sqdn

The following photograph turned up in the collection of a WW2 Indian Air Force Officer's collection. He joined Pakistan on independence and was part of the Pakistan Air Force. The photo was shared by Mr. Zahid Hussain.

Initially I was curious as it had SEAC markings but a bit of help from Franek - the aircraft is identified as an RAAF Mustang of possibly 77 Sqdn RAAF - which was part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan.

Looking for confirmation and any additional details of the incident.

    Hello,

I'm a bit suspicious about the photo. Is it genuine?

    Whatever ...

Possibly No.77 Sqn RAAF Mustang A68-712.

    No.77 Sqn RAAF, Miho Detachment.
    Mustang A68-712

Engine cut on take-off from Miho, Japan. Aircraft crashed 0945 (wheels-up), at end of strip.

Colin, initially i had my doubts as well, but I was informed that this came from collection of F S Hussain, and he was part of the BCOF in Japan. So my doubts are now gone

Thanks for the details. That does seem to match.
