Default Loss 103 Squadron Lancaster ME741, Düsseldorf raid 22-23 April 1944

    Dear all,

Who can supply me with additional info on the loss of 103 Squadron Lancaster ME741 during the Düsseldorf raid of 22-23 April 1944? The aircraft was hit by Flak and abandoned, all seven crew members (all RAF) surviving to be taken prisoners of war. Info on location/time etc of loss much appreciated!

    Cheers, Theo

    Hello,
According to an account by the rear gunner Bernard Warren, to be found at David Fell's 103 Sqn site at northlincsweb.net, the aircraft was hit by flak just after bombing and abandoned shortly after.Apparently they were late over the target.
    Regards.

Thanks for that -interesting! One additional question; what was the time over target of 103 Squadron on this night?

    Hello again,
103 Sqn dispatched 13 aircraft, with one missing and one destroyed in crash on return.Of the eleven for which TOT is recorded, ten bombed between 01.19 and 01.26, with one outlier at 01.36.
    Regards.

Thanks for that -that means that ME741 was over target at around 01.50-55 hrs. I have a matching Flak searchlight/Flak/night fighter claim for that.

    Cheers, Theo
