Default 1942 New Years Honours and Awards

Does anyone have access to the BEM citations for the above please? I am aware that they remain in 'hard copy' in the AIR 2 files at Kew, but this requires a visit - which is a tad tricky for me whilst serving Her Majesty in Africa.

    Many thanks in advance

    Hey Jonny

I presume you mean the recommendations? They are sometimes better as many citations were not published. Hugh Halliday will be your man for those. I have photographed a number of these files for him in the past (when I lived in London), as have a couple of other people, but he has done the hard work of transcribing them all.

I still have the original digital photos I took of several of them, mainly dating 1943-1945, and a couple prior to and after those dates, but unfortunately not the 1942 NYH. If you contact Hugh directly (PM?) - unless he sees your post first - let him know which man you're after and he'll usually pull it up and provide it in a very brief space of time.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Thanks Hugh. It appears that you are missing a chunk of the 1 Jan 42 RAF BEMs, the recs for which I know are extant at Kew. I shall have to explore another direction!
    Thanks again

The relevant document at Kew appears to be Air 2/8901. If you or anyone acting on your behalf can photograph or otherwise copy the complete file (or even just the BEM part) and provide me with a copy, I will be most grateful and do my best to share such information.

    Hello,

Relevant Honours/Awards information for the NYHL 1942, can be found within the following London Gazette (no citations, of course):

https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/...9/supplement/1 - some pages poorly scanned).

True, but both Jonny and I want those recommendations in Air 2/8901.

The following is one such example, and the reason that I know they still exist:

505514 Flt Sgt Samuel Carter RAF

"Since February 1940, this N.C.O. has been senior cook and butcher at R.A.F. Station, Ringway and has carried out outstandingly good work. The number of personnel for whom he has had to cater has grown immensely and has meant a corresponding increase in the work falling to Flight Sergeant Carter. He has maintained the station cook house at a very high standard of efficiency and has displayed loyalty and devotion to duty. On account of enemy air raids in the vicinity he has often had to improvise cooking arrangements for the airmen but has always produced the most excellent meals in all conditions. He has done a very good deal to assist in maintaining the morale and the good health of the station."

    Hugh,

I have received additional images covering 12 of the BEMs recs from the 1942 NYH (Air 2/8901). It isn't much, but you are welcome to them. Please send me your email, if you'd like me to send them through.

    Rgds
