    Default Flight Magazine Archive

I've not seen anyone else's post on this, but presume people are aware...?

Does anyone have the gen on what's happening with the Archive? My usual link gives me "Page not found", but using the links within the site, I get:

"The Flight magazine archive is currently under maintenance and will be back online soon.
    Thanks for your patience.
In the meantime, why not subscribe to Flight International and get access to the past editions from 2012 through the digital library."

It's been a couple of weeks now and, with everyone shut down over Christmas and the New Year, I presume it will be several more yet.

Does anyone know what's happening and when it will be online again, as the site does not advise?

Hopefully, it means some improvements (e.g. the search engine) but that it will still remain FOC.

    Cheers

    Steve,

    You are not alone!

Same results as you, for over a week now.

On AB-IX someone said that they are updating it for better search like the use of the long over due Multiple words

    Apparently they know someone involved
But they did not know timescales

I always find it odd that things go offline while improvements are made. Surely improvements are made to a duplicate version, tested and then switched over? This will cause less problems for the readers/customers/clients or whatever the current trendy term for us is this week?

Also how does one get hold of prints of original Flight photos found in the magazines? Do they still hold them all or just the popular ones?

Thanks Paul, good to know; they certainly need a better search engine. It's an excellent resource, only limited by poor search engine, so I hope your informant is right.

I do agree with PNK, though. Generally, you would update pages offline, then update the existing pages by overwriting them or redirecting them to new pages (as I do with my own websites), so I also do not understand why something is taken offline to update it.

Still, I shouldn't complain. As said, it is an excellent resource and it is, after all, FOC.

I use it a lot so it will be good to have it up and running again.

    From AB-iX

The restructuring of the archive has been planned since mid-2018. I was then assured by the editor that part of the plan is to improve the search facility, which badly needs an "advanced" option to allow conjunctions of two or more words to be searched.

The further options for charging had not been worked out at that time, but I would brace yourself for, at least, having to register and agree to be sent e-mail advertising in return for access.

I hate to say it, but the Flight Global website looks horribly like the new Key Aero website; the the new, improved Historic Aviation forum of which has been universally slated, with previous users leaving in droves. https://www.key.aero/forum/historic-aviation

Edit I should have added the new Historic Aviation forum was introduced without warning or testing.

Thanks Alex; that's the same message that I got.

Hopefully, it will be rectified early in the new year.
