    Default Service Number Details

Can anyone provide any details (enlistment date etc) for the block of service numbers that includes 12828xx. The last two digits are illegible.

    Best Regards

This service number indicates an enlistment date of late July / early August 1940.

    Hello,

Doesn't answer your question, but would this be your man?

1282864 P/O Wallace Deane DEVEREUX (107643) RAFVR - No.1 PRU - POW 28-8-1942 - Spitfire IV BP924 - Stalag Luft III - No.180 in the "Great Escape" lottery - he was inside the tunnel when the escape was discovered.

    Devereux was most likely shot down by Ltn Dieter Gerhard/t, of 2./JG1 - 28-08-42 - 2./JG1 - Ltn Dieter Gerhard/t - Spitfire - 40km WNW of Heligoland (9300m) 1320.
