T/o Luqa, for Egypt, but ditched at 0900. NFD. The dead are commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. SOC 8 July.

There is an article on the 11 days the four survivors spent which I will send to your email address should you have one on file. Cause is given as port engine failure.

Took off 1900, ALG 09. The aircraft had engine trouble and was returning to base, but gradually lost height and was abandoned 32km W of Mersa Matruh. The crew received only minor injuries, and was located and returned the next day.

British civilian worked as a special police constable in Easington, Yorks (1939-40). Served as RAF wireless operator and air gunner in Wellington bombers in operations over France (1941) and with No.37 and 38 Squadrons in operations over North Africa (1941-42). Eleven days in dinghy in Mediterranean (June 1941). Baled out over Libyan desert November (1941).
