Default ORB for RAF Abbotsinch Flight 1941-1943

Has anyone knowledge of ORB's for the RAF Flights based at Abbotsinch during WW2? I am confused as my late father F/Sgt F.E.Crawley (W/Op) flew with pilot F/Lt J.Hankins (later Sqdn/Ldr) there from Aug. 1941 to May 1945 when they transferred to Prestwick. His log books show from June 1943 it was 1680 (Transport) Flight (N/A Orb AIR 29/881/5) but initially from Aug. 1941-Aug 1942 it is shown as SHQ (Station Headquarters?) Flight and from Sept 1942-May 1943 just Station Flight. Another "spanner in the works" is that reading some articles on John Hankins it says prior to 1943 flew with 1680 (Western Communication) Flight which isn't shown in my fathers log books. Any guidance would be gratefully appreciated.

It might help you to check the Abbotsinch Base ORB.

There is a book "RAF Flying Training and Support Units since 1912" by Ray Sturtivant and John Hamlin this gives:

    No 1680 Flight
Formed 24.5.43 as No 1680 (Western Isles) Communications Flight in No 44 Group at Abbotsinch to take over the Western Isles functions of the Station Flight, ferrying VIPs to the Hebrides, Orkney and Shetland. 6.3.44 (moved to) Prestwick; 8.4.44 re-designated No 1680 (Transport) Flight.

Thanks for that info, I have looked again at my fathers log books and the dates in the book tally with the monthly signings. I had missed the W.I.C. writing in March 1944.
Still need help in finding flights orbs, should I now look into 44 group plus any idea for Abbotsinch Base orb?

Chris, many many thanks for your help. As a "newbie" to NA was finding it a bit confusing, will make a trip this summer as have a period of 4 years records to look through linking with my fathers log books. Fred
