    Default Lancaster ND650 - March 24/25 1944

On March 24/25, 1944, Lancaster ND650 of 12 Squadron crashed while returning from a raid on Berlin. Four crew members were killed: Pilot - F/O Frederick Charles Hentsch; F/Eng. - Sgt. Robert Morrison Cringle; WOp - Sgt. Eric Birch; and, AG - F/O Denys Ronald Wimlett. The navigator, P/O Carl Rudyk (RCAF), was severely wounded, imprisoned in Stalag Luft III and had his leg amputated. He was later repatriated to Canada aboard the mercy ship Grispholm. Sgt. A.C. Summers also became a POW and Sgt. A.J. Keveren was an evader.

I am interested in learning more about this flight and the men involved. I would especially like to make contact with any relatives of these men (I have successfully made contact with several relatives of Carl Rudyk, but would like to learn more about the other men in this crew).

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Alain12,
I would be very interested in the specifics of the other missions flown by this crew leading up to their crash on March 24/25, 1944.

    Best wishes,
    Neil

I have for ND650: according to surviving crew members, hit by Flak over Duisburg, caught fire and abandoned, crashed at Weert. Any further info, especially on the (estimated) time when the aircraft was hit, would be appreciated!

And is there a crew photo available?

    Cheers, Theo
