    Default Operation 9.10.1943

    Dear Gentlemen,

maybe someone can help. I have aproblem with the crash site of Halifax LW317 of 158 Sqn.

Bill Chorley wrote in his BCL that this a/c crashed at Wiedensahl. Looking at the Luftgau Reports I find that only one a/c crashed there (ED658, 460 Sqn.).

    Any suggestions are much appreciated.

    kind regards

    Steve

    Hi Steve
Chorley records ED658 as crashing "just to the NE of the Bahnhof at Wiedensahl" and for LW317 he adds "16 Kms NE of Minden". Would those 16 Kms make a difference in reporting the place ,particularly in Germany where I suspect they would be less likely to generalise.
I note that both crews became POW(with one later death), the POW debriefs may offer some guidance
    Regards

    Dear Dick,

    thanks for your answer.

Wiedensahl is located 16km NE of Minden. This was only written because Wiedensahl is less known to the reader than Minden. But this has nothing to do with the crash site itself.

There are three outstanding crash sites where LW317 could have crashed. None of these is located in the vicinity of Wiedensahl.

Please, can you tell me where I can get the POW debriefs?

    kind regards

    Steve

Pow debriefs are, I believe , held in the National Archive at Kew under a War Office reference because they were the responsibility of MI6 after the war. The NA Website might point you in the right direction if you cannot visit or have no contact who can do it on your behalf.Chorley will give the crew names
