Default 84 Sqn 1927 photo request

On page 23 of Don Neate's history of 84 Sqn, Scorpions Sting, there is a photograph of a group of officers taken at Shaibah, Iraq in 1927.

Would anyone know where one might obtain a scan of this photo? The one in the book is rather gray looking and would not scan very well.

Don Neate, I think, is no longer with us?

    TIA,
    Errol

    Hi Errol,

I'm sorry that I am unable to help, but by coincidence he was my next-door neighbour in Devizes for many years. He was a quiet, friendly but very private man and, sadly, I was not aware of his knowledge and intense interest in aviation. As you say, Don is no longer with us, I think he died about 20 years ago, but by that time I had moved to a new address.

Edit: In his acknowledgement of Don in of his book Wings over Wiltshire, Rod Priddle records Don died before its publication, so my estimate of his death is about right.

Have you tried to contact somebody on the publishing side at Air Britain perhaps Phil Butler?

    Errol,

Drop a line over on "The Aerodrome", asking for a contact number/address for Tony Mellor-Ellis (the photograph came from his collection). Apparently M-E has quite a large collection of 14-18 material.

Many thanks Col. Looks promising. I've posted a request on The Aerodrome.

    Cheers,
    Errol
