    Wing Commander Ruthven Montgomerie Chase MACFARLANE (05073)

    At the start of the Second World War he returned to the Service. He died in 1943 at the age of 46 after taking ill.

    Flight Lieutenant Harold George Henry PHIPPS (82094)

    In April 1943, only four months after arriving at Tumbu he collapsed and was admitted to the Military Hospital in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Unfortunately his illness worsened and he was flown to the UK where he died of lung cancer in King Edward VII Emergency Chest Hospital, Midhurst, Sussex, in September 1943.

    CWGC incorrectly lists his second forename as Buckley. Both his birth and death certificates state Bushby

    He was attached to the Transfer Flight at Maison Blanche in Algeria at the time of his death.
    He was killed while piloting an aircraft on a ferry flight from Maison Blanche in Algeria.

    He was killed on May 31, 1943, when his Hurricane came down and is buried about 30 miles SW of Tunis.
