Default W/O George Wilson Wood BAKER MBE 363343 RAF

Found today in 209 Squadron appendices page 438 of 510

concerning W/O George Wilson Wood BAKER MBE 363343 RAF

"Medical Officer's Report...12.3.44. At 20.40 hours word was received that an airman had been electrocuted in Bowmore and the Medical Officer immediately proceeded thither in the ambulance arriving at 21.00 hours. At his home in Main Street, Bowmore, the body of 363343 W/O Baker, M.B.E. was found lying about 5 yards from a dynamo supplying the premises with electric light. He was very cyanosed and not breathing, nor could the pulse be felt or any heart sounds heard. Nevertheless, artificial respiration was immediately commenced and continued for about 1 1/2 hour when cooling of the body indicated that further attempts were useless. Intracardiac adrenaline and subcutaneous (illegible) were also given. Enquiries elicited the fact that W/O Baker was last seen alive 1 1/2 hours before being found, and it is considered that on arrival of the M.O. he had been dead for 1/2 to 1 hour, though the time of death from electrocution is notoriously difficult to determine. Examination of the body revealed an electrical burn on the anterior surface of the right wrist corresponding in shape with a resistance in the set, and a small bruise of recent origin over the right malor bone. The Inspector of Police was informed and received a full report"
The details of the MBE awarded to him can be found on page 437 of said Appendices
