Default 22 OTU Wellington IC X9935 CRASH 28/29 Jan 1942

Does anyone have the ORB for 22 OTU for the night of the 28/29 Jan 42 or any details on the crash of Wellington X9935. I have the detail from Bill Chorley's BCL Vol 7 OTUs but am interested in any further details.

    Many thanks

Thanks for posting. Sgt Alan Schofield Fletcher DFM had completed a tour of Ops with 78 Squadron, gaining a DFM after 27 Ops. I am assuming that he was an instructor at 22OTU at the time of the crash. A period newspaper article states he was seriously injured and in a midlands hospital, where his wife was trying to join him. He was subsequently promoted to Warrant Officer and then commissioned in 1944. He was then discharged by sentence of General Courts Martial in 1945.

I guess I will have to apply for his service record to see if there is any mention of a second tour and then a visit to TNA once things are back to normal, to see what the GCM was for.

I have now looked at the pilots service record and it would appear that they lost an engine at low level due to problems with the fuel mix, crashing into high ground.

    Thank you both for posting.

Fg Off Alan Schofield Fletcher DFM was based at 17 SFTS, Spitalgate, when he was found guilty at trial by CM on 4 Sep 45. He was dismissed HM Service for offences contrary to Section 39(A)(2) and Section 40.

Unfortunately, all of my references are in storage, so I can't tell you what the offences relate to. Perhaps someone else has a copy of the MAFL / AF Act to hand and can assist?

    Rgds

    Jonny

Edit - Section 39 could relate to flying offences whereby damage was caused through neglect. Is there an aircraft accident applicable in this case?

    Daz,

Just noticed my post didn't format properly.

Robson and Robinson also "Seriously Injured", Sgt Edwards also "Dangerously Injured"

    Steve,

many thanks all received, your PM box is full by the way.

    Dave,

    thanks for the clarification

    Jonny,

Many thanks for the info, I will request his file once things are back to normal and see if it gives any detail. He passed away in 1978 so hopefully there won't be too many issues getting the info released. Hope Africa is treating you well.

    Regards

    Daz
