    Default Unaccounted airmen - 8-4-1941

    What caused the death of:

    AC2 James S.W. BALLANTYNE - 1342610 - death registered at Hull - not found Flight archives;
    LAC John S. BENNETT - 746135 - death registered at Durham - not found Flight archives;
    Sgt Henry DAWSON - 516339 - death registered at Andover - not found Flight archives;
    LAC (Pilot u/t) Thomas R. GRAHAM - 1014960 - death registered at Barrows - not found Flight archives, and
    LAC Joseph W. SAVAGE - 1109070 - death registered at Holderness - killed on active service.

    What caused the death of and/or what was the place of death registration for:

    AC2 Raymond NESBITT - 1195501 - not found Flight archives.

    Proposed aircraft losses for this day:

    Blenheim I - L1185 - 54 OTU - crashed on approach Church Fenton.
    Hurricane I - N2386 - 55 OTU - crashed in forced landing Usworth.
    Tiger Moth II - N6738 - 18 EFTS - damaged 8-4-1941 - SOC 15-4-1941.
    Tiger Moth II - T5691 - 7 EFTS - abandoned Bradgate Park near Newtown Linford, Leicestershire.

    Hi Henk
    Nesbitt is registered at Northumberland Central. It may be co-incidence but on the same page there are about 6 other Nesbitts registered around the Tyneside , Newcastle, and Tynemouth area. A batch of deaths like that suggests an Air Raid. There is nothing to link them as relatives.
    Warner reports no injuries on Blenheim L1185

    Sgt Henry DAWSON - 516339 - death registered at Andover - Probably, Flight magazine May 22nd - DIED OF WOUNDS OR INJURIES RECEIVED
    ON ACTIVE SERVICE.—;

    F1180 confirms Graham as sole fatality on Tiger Moth T5691

    Hurricane N2386 55 OTU 8/4/41 Engine caught fire in flt (Glycol Leak ), Landed U/C Retracted at Usworth Pilot Unhurt

    Malczewski Eugeniusz Sgt P-1688 /783620

    This pilot had the missfortune to be involved in two Other Prangs while at 55 OTU
    14/4/41 f/l safe Hurricane L1571
    15/4/41 Crashed safe Hurricane N2648

    Hello

    AC2 James S.W. BALLANTYNE - 1342610 - the Aberdeen Press and Journal of May 13th 1941 reported that he "died as the result of enemy action."

    LAC John S. BENNETT - 746135 - the National Probate Calendar records "BENNETT John Samuel of Tyneville, Whitburn Road, Cleadon, Co. Durham, who was last seen alive on April 7 1941 and whose dead body was found on April 8 1941." His unit on the G.R.R. Form is 55 O.T.U.

    Death certificate states body found Wilberforce Street, Hull, on 8 May 1941. There was a very heavy air raid on Hull on 7/8 May, and another the following night, but he was probably kill in the first; cause of death "war operations." The main railway station is close to Wilberforce Street, and one civilian was killed at the junction of it and the main Anlaby Road on the same date.
