    Default Sq/Ldr Anthony O'shea Murdoch 40414 Bomber Command, Lancaster JB601 ZN-V

    Hi,

I was after information and pictures of this aircraft and its last aircrew.... Mainly its pilot Anthony Murdoch.

Anthony O'shea Murdoch is my mothers uncle and I (her son) have been doing some research recently... Im after more information on what aircraft he was flying before his final mission and any pictures of that too if possible.

I would also like to know how or why his/ their last mission is so well known? Purely for interests sake.

    Thank you,

    Michael.

    Hello Michael, and Welcome.

For starters, you can take a look here:

    http://aircrewremembered.com/murdoch-anthony.html

One of the reasons that raid had such prominence, is the fact that No.106 lost five aircraft, one of which resulted in the award of a VC to Newfoundlander, P/O Freddie Mifflin DFC (Lancaster I ME669).

    Also check this out:

S/L Murdoch's Lancaster III JB601:ZN-V, was named "Victory".

I believe that the museum at RAF Metheringham have a photo of this aircraft. It is closed this year, due to Covid-19, but you could try contacting them at enquiries.rafmetheringham@gmail.com. I hope this helps, best of luck. Andrew
