    Adrian, Hi,

This is a difficult one! The following is in the public domain:-

    James John Pawsey
    b. Q1 1921 (MMS Pawsey!) Reg Yarmouth 4b 61
    Mid-April 1940 Enlisted 928713 in Block 900000-934899 RAFVR Issued Uxbridge 04-Jan-40 to 30-Apr-40. Aged 19. AIR 78/124/2 Image 250 R3C2.
No ‘hits’ in the LG for Name/Number.
    m. ?? ??? ????
    d. 12 Jun 1943 in DK170.

Now the Pawsey family seems to have married cousins at some time(s), but I can’t find a marriage for this one! So we must consider that this birth Reg may be ‘non-standard’. It is possible that James J Pawsey may have married an Edna M Hargrave in Q3 1938 (Reg W Glamorgan 11a 2476) – two girls from this marriage Reg in E&W. But whether it is the same J J Pawsey I know not. You could try getting the known Certs from GRO to see if the Informants/Witnesses might be connected, but I think you may have trouble chasing this one any further!

    Hello,

Not a good sign. Pawsey's estate still hadn't been cleared up in June 1945:

No better, a year later. Amount now doubled!

A little bit of detective work on the Newspaper Archive on FMP and the 1939 found a possible Pawsey link to Great Yarmouth, if that's where he's from:

The Yarmouth Independent newspaper of August 20th 1938 about cyclists compaigning about a set of traffic lights at Gorleston not working properly, leading to them being fined for going through red lights. One of the cyclists was James Pawsey, of Frederick Road, Gorleston [Gorleston-on-Sea, just south of Great Yarmouth].

The 1939 Register has the following members of the Pawsey family living at 10 Frederick Road, Great Yarmouth:

    PAWSEY, Sidney C., b. Feb. 23rd 1891, carpenter
PAWSEY, Anna S., b. Nov. 19th 1891, upaid domestic duties
    PAWSEY, Percy J. J.*, b. Apr. 19th 1917, carpenter's labourer
PAWSEY, Malvina L., b. July 3rd 1921, sewing machinist for menswear [her surname is crossed out and 'Bottomley' overwritten]
PAWSEY, Kennedy L., b. Mar. 19th 1925, slipper factory hand
PAWSEY, Pamela J., b. Mar. 30th 1929, at school [her surname is crossed out and 'Browne' overwritten]
    PAWSEY, Joy N., b. Dec. 8th 1932, at school

*Percy James John Pawsey, died in 1983 at Great Yarmouth - source is the National Probate Calendar. Co-incidence about the James John forenames?

No sign of James John Pawsey in the 1939 Register or in any newspapers around 1943.

Peter's possible James J. Pawsey who married Edna May Hargrave died in 1972, according to a family tree on ancestry.co.uk.
