PoW Numbers

Does anyone have any information as to the method of PoW numbering in the Dulag?

Does a higher number just mean a later capture date or were pilots interrogated for longer and numbered afterwards, therefore (could have) had higher number than their crew.

Would an injured airman be treated before being sent to the Dulag for processing/numbering?

Hi, I can't actually help with how the numbering process worked, however with regards to the medical treatment side of things I have found cases where injured airmen were sent to civilian hospitals prior to going to DulagLuft, members of one crew being visited in hospital by the Night-fighter pilot who shot them down. Others were sent to DulagLuft and then placed into hospital in the Lazarette assigned to DulagLuft.

Does anyone know if PoW numbers have any significance? eg where and when they were issued.

I have some from the same crew issued (I assume) at Dlagluft in Feb 1944; 1465 and 1469 and one who evaded capture for 3 days has 1619 and one who was in Hospital for some time before getting to DL has 2133, all seems to make sense.

I also have found a PoW number which may be relevant which is 43352.

I have found a similar Number 43349 issued to a Pilot Thomas Mosedale 990901 who crash landed in Belgium in June 1943.

Am I barking up the wrong tree?
